The Challenge
JustSimpleMe is a lifestyle brand with a growing product catalog. Their existing store ran on WordPress with WooCommerce — a setup that had served them initially but was becoming a bottleneck. Page load times were slow, the admin interface was cumbersome, and every plugin update risked breaking something.
The migration scope was substantial: 66 products with 357 total variants (sizes, colors, materials), each with its own pricing, inventory levels, and product imagery. Customer data, order history, and URL structures all needed to transfer cleanly. Any downtime or broken links meant lost revenue and damaged SEO.
The client also wanted a visual refresh — a theme that matched their evolving brand identity without starting the design process from scratch.
Our Approach
We treated this as a data migration project first and a design project second. Getting the data right was non-negotiable.
Migration strategy — we built a structured export pipeline from WooCommerce that captured every product, variant, image, and metadata field. Each record was validated and transformed to match Shopify's data model before import. We ran the migration in staging first, verified everything, then executed the live cutover.
Product variant mapping — the trickiest part was mapping WooCommerce's variant structure (which handles attributes differently) to Shopify's option/variant model. We wrote custom transformation scripts to ensure all 357 variants retained their correct pricing, SKUs, and inventory counts.
Custom Shopify theme — rather than using a generic template, we built a custom theme that reflects JustSimpleMe's brand aesthetic. Clean typography, generous whitespace, and product photography front and center. The theme is optimized for mobile shopping, which accounts for the majority of their traffic.
URL redirects — every old WooCommerce URL was mapped to its Shopify equivalent with 301 redirects, preserving the SEO equity built over years of organic traffic.
